Dependant Visa Applications

If you are a dependant of a person who has either British Nationality or Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) status settled in the UK, you may be eligible to apply as his or her dependant. There are different dependant categories.

Children:

If you are a child, under 18 year of age, you need to prove your relationship to parent such, you are the son, daughter, step child or an adopted child. Importantly, your parent will need to demonstrate they have 'sole responsibility' of your upbringing.

Further, your sponsor will need to demonstrate that he or she can provide you with accommodation and financially support you without recourse to public funds.

Elderly Parents and Grandparents

If you are an elderly parent or grandparent who has a child or grandchild who is a UK citizen or holding ILR status, is present and settled in the UK, he or she can sponsor you to settle in the UK. However, there are strict requirements. The applicant must be aged 65 or over. However, if the living circumstances of the parent or grandparent are duly exceptional or compassionate then the age can be lowered.

The evidence under this category needs to be provided by you to prove your circumstances are true and most importantly there is financial dependency on the sponsor or you are living in the most exceptional circumstances.

Your sponsor will need to show that he or she is able to provide you with accommodation and financial support during your stay in the UK.

Other dependant relatives:

If you are related to a sponsor such as sister, brother, aunt, uncle and you are financially and emotionally dependent upon a relative in the UK who is a British Citizen or holds ILR status , you can apply for a dependant visa.
